Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. She was moved to Oxfordshire in the year she turned five and enrolled in the Dragon School. Emma was six years old when she realized she wanted to be an actor. She studied for a number of years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a Part-time theatre school located in Oxford in which she learned acting and singing. In a school play and an Stagecoach show, she took the lead at the age 10 and performed. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the film version of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book was cast in the year 1999. Emma was spotted by Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, and Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been picked for these parts. The cast included Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's film debut was made with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). It also was the most successful film of 2001. The opening weekend and day the sales were record breaking. Film critics praised the film as well as the performances of the three young stars. The Daily Telegraph, an important British paper, called Emma's acting "amazing". Then Emma was shortlisted for five prizes for her work in the film, winning an award called the Young Artist Award for Leading Actress of a Younger in an Feature Film.
